While waiting for the boat to head over to Portsmouth Island for the annual Christmas Bird Count 30 December 2005, Peter Vankevich photographed this female Common Eider in Silver Lake, Ocracoke village, NC. Unfortunately, the bird was not relocated the next day for the Ocracoke CBC and, alas, was relegated to the mere status of a "Count Week" bird.
