John Ennis photographed these Lesser Scaup on 27 Feb 2007 at Cherry Branch Ferry, NC. Field marks for making the tricky separation from Greater Scaup are nicely illustrated: white speculum contrasting with gray primaries, purple head sheen, and angular head shape.
