The Washington Post today contains an article on pecking order at the bird feeder that claims that Red-bellied Woodpeckers are one of the most aggressive and territorial of birds there. But the Red-bellied Woodpecker at our mountain cabin is a great friend of the hosts of lowly Chickadees--and, indeed, today was quite fascinated by the Chickadee who managed to get inside an almost-empty feeder and get stuck there. (He eventually extricated himself.)
