Carolina Bird Club—Website Editor Position
The Carolina Bird Club's Website Editor is retiring, and the Club is seeking a new Website Editor to maintain and guide the future of our long-standing, high-performance Club website. This is a unique opportunity to support birding across the Carolinas by managing one of the Club's most important resources.
About the Role
The Website Editor oversees the Club's website, which includes both standard content and a number of custom-built applications developed over many years. These include:
- Membership database
- Meeting registration
- Online dues payments
- Bird records databases
- Photo gallery
- eBird sightings reporting
- Other specialized Club functions
The current system is powerful and efficient, but it requires a level of technical expertise.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has a solid background in computing and is comfortable working with web technologies. Proficiency with the following is preferred:
- HTML
- PHP
- MySQL
- Apache
- Linux
However, the current Website Editor did not have these proficiencies when he started but learned on the job, so what matters most is:
- Strong general computer skills
- Technical aptitude
- Problem-solving ability
- Eagerness to learn the required skills
- Commitment to supporting the Club's mission
Time Commitment
The workload varies throughout the year but is generally manageable, with occasional bursts of activity around meeting registration periods or major updates. The outgoing Website Editor will remain available during a transition period to provide training and support.
There is a modest salary for this job.
Why This Role Matters
The website is the Club's public face, its membership hub, and a vital tool for sharing birding information across the Carolinas. Your work will directly support birders, researchers, and conservation-minded citizens throughout the region.
