The Carolina Bird Club, Inc., is a non-profit educational and scientific association open to anyone interested in the study and conservation of wildlife, particularly birds.

The Club meets each winter, spring, and fall at different locations in the Carolinas. Meeting sites are selected to give participants an opportunity to see many different kinds of birds. Guided field trips and informative programs are combined for an exciting weekend of meeting with people who share an enthusiasm and concern for birds.

The Club offers research grants in avian biology for undergraduate and graduate students, and scholarships for young birders.

The Club publishes two print publications (now also available online). The Chat is a quarterly ornithological journal that contains scientific articles, reports of bird records committees and bird counts, and general field notes on bird sightings. CBC Newsletter is published bimonthly and includes birding articles and information about meetings, field trips, and Club news.

The Club provides this website to all for free.

By becoming a member, you support the activities of the Club, receive reduced registration fee for meetings, can participate in bonus field trips, and receive our publications.

We Are Going to Beaufort, South Carolina for Our Fall Meeting—October 2–5, 2025

Picturesque Beaufort offers some of the best birding along the South Carolina coast. Previous meetings in Beaufort we have tallied 203 species, which is a close second to the Outer Banks (204 species). Then, think of the field trips to Hunting Island… Donnelley WMA… Savannah NWR… Spring Island WMA… These sites are hallowed ground to Lowcountry birders, and we will visit them all and more during the upcoming Carolina Bird Club 2025 Fall Meeting! We are staying at the Holiday Inn & Suites Beaufort -- Plan NOW on going!

The Holiday Inn Suites will host our registration, meetings and Saturday night buffet. We got excellent rates for this very popular resort. The cutoff for reservations under the group block will be September 1th. Contact the Holiday Inn Suites at 1-843-379-3100. Be sure to mention the Carolina Bird Club in order to receive the group rates of $149/room.

Friday night we plan to meet informally at a Brewery, then all can sample a favorite restaurant in the shore town of Beaufort or Hilton Head. On Saturday night we will have dinner at the Holiday Inn Suites in Beaufort, and Guest Speaker will be Felicia Sanders! Since 2001, Felicia Sanders has worked for SCDNR as lead biologist for the Coastal Bird Conservation Program, developing the program into a four-person powerhouse that works across the entire coast to monitor, manage and research our state's seabirds and shorebirds. In recent years, Felicia Sanders and her team have played a leading role in several significant conservation success stories, including the discovery of the world's largest Whimbrel night roost at Deveaux Bank and the restoration of Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary. Dr. Sanders has been the principle investigator researching Red Knot migration strategies in South Carolina, work that has challenged existing notions of the significance of South Carolina beaches to Red Knots. Coastal bird biologist Felicia Sanders was recently awarded the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian honor, May 2025.

I think you will find Beaufort to be a historic and beautiful area for the fall CBC meeting. Lots of field trips are offered with new additions. Finally, and best of all, you will bird a very birdy part of South Carolina during the height of Migration!!
